History and Founders
In 2014, New York On Tech (NYOT) was founded by Jessica Santana and Evin Floyd Robinson. Proud products of NYC public schools, Jessica and Evin were working in technology and noticed the disconnect between their work in the industry and the education students were receiving in the community they were from. Moved to action, the duo set out to establish a platform that would address the college and career readiness of future technologists to ensure that all students had an opportunity to thrive in the sector. In three years, NYOT has grown from serving students across 2 high schools in NYC to 50+ high schools in 2017. The organization now works with 35+ corporate partners and private foundations to support its mission and alumni are enrolled in 25 different colleges and universities across the nation.
NYOT has gained both local and national praised for its work on the global Forbes 30 Under 30 list, Forbes Magazine, CNN, TechCrunch, Huffington Post, Black Enterprise, PBS and other leading publications. NYOT has also received a distinction in technology from the Brooklyn Borough President's Office and was a finalist for Nurturing Employability through the University of Pennsylvania's Reimagine Education Awards program.
